🥯 The Apple Ring "Doughnut" Pastry

If you're looking for a dessert that looks like it came straight from a high-end bakery but only takes a few minutes to prep, this Apple Puff Pastry Ring (also known as the "Apple Doughnut" hack) is your new best friend. It’s a viral sensation for a reason: the pastry wraps around the apple to create a beautiful, ridged circle that’s perfectly portioned and incredibly satisfying to crunch into.

🥯 The Apple Ring "Doughnut" Pastry

Flaky, golden rings of cinnamon-spiced perfection.

 🛒 Ingredients

2 Large Apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith) 🍎

1 Sheet Frozen Puff Pastry (thawed but cold) 🧊

1 Egg (beaten for egg wash) 🥚

3 tbsp Cinnamon Sugar mix 🤎

Optional: A squeeze of lemon juice (to keep apples from browning) 🍋

👩‍🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions

Preparation:

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper so nothing sticks.

Create the Apple Rings:

Slice the apples crosswise into rounds about ½ inch thick. Use a small circular cookie cutter, a metal piping tip, or even a clean bottle cap to punch out the core in the center. You want them to look like thick wooden rings.  ⭕

Cut the Pastry Strips:

Unfold your puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Use a pizza cutter to slice the pastry into long, thin strips (roughly ½ inch wide). 🔪

The Wrapping Technique:

Take one pastry strip and pull it through the center hole of an apple ring. Wrap it around the apple, overlapping the edges slightly as you go. Continue until the entire apple is "spiraled" in dough. 🥨

Note: If a strip ends, just pinch a new one onto it and keep wrapping!

The Golden Finish:

Place the rings on your prepared tray. Brush each one thoroughly with the egg wash. This is the secret to that deep golden shine in your photo! Sprinkle a generous amount of cinnamon sugar over the top. ✨

Bake to Perfection:

Bake for 18–22 minutes. You are looking for the pastry to be puffed up and a rich, golden brown.

Serve:

Let them cool for a few minutes on the tray.  They are best served warm, perhaps with a side of caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. 🍦
